Reformer Classes now available
Pilates at Hoys has recently expanded with the use of Pilates equipment. Mat work classes will continue as normal, and there will be equipment classes added to the schedule. Pilates equipment includes the ‘reformer’ and ‘Trapeze table’ which allows its users to strengthen their core, pelvic and neck muscles in a variety of different ways. This specialised Pilates equipment uses springs to add resistance and has the ability to alter your body position to challenge your core muscles in different ways. The versatility of the Pilates equipment, means that this form of Pilates is suitable for everyone regardless of injury. The equipment is highly beneficial for those who struggle to get on and off the floor and thus aren’t appropriate for mat work classes.
Prior to starting equipment Pilates, you will require a one-on-one session with Physiotherapist Suzie Ammann. This involves running through how the equipment works as well as important safety precautions that you must be aware of. This session will also involve an assessment so that an individualised program can be developed to suit your needs.
Trapeze table (Cadillac)
A trapeze table includes a firm table with a trapeze mechanism over it that allows the addition of springs
with varying strengths to facilitate and progress exercises. It is used for general strengthening as part of a rehabilitation program as well as for advanced Pilates movements.
A Pilates reformer is made up of a sliding carriage that is suspended on a smooth gliding track within a rectangular frame. Different resistances can be added to the sliding carriage to target certain muscles groups for a more specialised rehabilitation program. The reformer allows the stabilising core muscles to be challenged
while also allowing the range of motion of your legs and arms.

Prevention is better than Medication!
There are different types of diabetes; the three most common types of diabetes are type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes. Strong international evidence shows diabetes prevention programs can help prevent type 2 diabetes in up to 58 per cent of cases. You can do a lot to reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes, read our tips below.
Currently type 1 diabetes cannot be prevented. However, researchers are looking into the
autoimmune process and environmental factors that lead people to developing type 1 diabetes to help prevent type 1 diabetes in the future.
Evidence, including large-scale randomised control trials, shows type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed in up to 58% of cases by maintaining a healthy weight, being physically active and following a healthy eating plan.
People at risk of type 2 diabetes can delay and even prevent the condition by:
- Maintaining a healthy weight
