According to Diabetes NSW, people being diagnosed with Diabetes are growing 7 -10% a year, this has also caused an increase in amputations of 25% in the two years. These growth are especially worrying when there are 1.2 million Australians that have diabetes (all types of diagnosed Diabetes).
For NSW there’s at least 36,000 people diagnosed with type 2 diabetes each year, which is a chronic health condition that can be prevented with lifestyle modifications, such as eating a balanced diet and increase activity levels.
At Hoys Physiotherapy, we offer Exercise groups for everyone, especially for people diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes (bulk billed with Medicare Referral from GP).
These exercise groups aim to provide people with education of the benefits of exercising for their condition, promote good exercise posture and technique as well as building confidence. Many people with Type 2 Diabetes dread when they hear exercise, but our approach to exercise groups are tailored to the individual and focused on building good movement habits and improve every day function with home exercises. We also keep exercise group sizes small so we can provide more care to each individual.
People diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes are supported by Medicare to participate in exercise groups to manage their condition. If you have Type 2 Diabetes or know anyone, you can follow up with your GP regarding Group Allied Health Services Under Medicare for patients with Type 2 diabetes.
Hoys Physiotherapy also offers Natropathy services for people with Type 2 Diabetes, assisting the management of Diabetes through supplements and dietary advices. Although currently not under Medicare, health funds do provide rebates.
